It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong. —Voltaire, 1751

I think He is trying to tell me to slow down …

(as if the headaches aren’t enough)

Do you work when you are sick?  I can’t honestly remember the last time I didn’t work because I was sick. I’m in awe of people who can take them (and know when it’s appropriate to take them, yes – I’m talking to you whiners and crybabies).  With all the technology these days, do true sick days really even still exist?

If you know me, you know I can’t sit still.  I’m always doing, making, thinking.  I get enormous migraines the first day of every vacation – either the stress leaving my body in one big bang as I let go, or the stress of doing nothing for an extended period of time crushing down on me.  Sometimes it’s both.

Last week I had a low budget headache all week, my ears were ringing.  On Friday, I was sure I had turf toe (yes it hurt that badly).  But I went to work, toughed it out, ran around the building from meeting to meeting (no highschool-like bell system unfortunately). Went home, had dinner with the fam and packed for the lake.

Woke up Saturday with the back of my neck and shoulders frozen in pain.  What the hell?  The only way it felt ok was if I raised my arms up (not a great way to spend 90 minutes in the car, enjoy a boat ride, swim, and nevermind tubing).  But did it stop me, no sir.

It still hurts today, and I am trying to rest in between loads of laundry, ebay, a CSS tutorial, studying for my Adwords certification, and this blog post.

Resting is just not in me.  So I’ll give it another go and try to take a nap this afternoon – right after I put a load in the dryer and make one of these really cute felt things from this adorable book

Putting myself first

Posted: June 6th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: crafts, family | No Comments »

So after about 2 years of neglecting most everything but my job, I’m putting myself first.  That’s right.  I know, I know, I’ve said it before.  But this time I *have* to do it – my health requires it.

So this weekend, I spent some time rearranging the craft room.  Such a shame all the stuff that’s sat there just begging to be made over the past two years.  Decided to start easy with scrabble tile pendants.  Forgot how the Diamond Glaze doesn’t wash off, and my hands are covered in it.  I got about 12 of them done:

While they dry, moving on to some wine charms.  Haven’t made any of these since the store up the street asked me for a wholesale order and I had to say no – working 60 hours a week didn’t leave me any time to make them in bulk.  Check out this set of 6 Wine Charms/Drink Markers **Foil Stars** perfect for summer! http://bit.ly/bxtPEW

I opened a new store for my magnet crafts since some people told me they were buried in with my jewelry.  These things sell like hotcakes on ebay, so giving it a try with etsy.  Check it out: http://magnetini.etsy.com.

Mark made a bunch of these last year, and they’ve been taking up space in our office/craft room. My ebay/etsy funds are running a bit low since I just bought the boys some new water shoes and sent some prints to my aunts, so these have got to go! Just posted them on etsy and ebay both./p

Recycle Crayon Project – Step 1

Bunches of crayons left over from school. What do to with them all? I hate to throw them away, but the boys are really not interested in crayons anymore. They’ve moved on to markers.

After coming out of the freezer, these disks just popped right out of the pan! Cool. Now I have to get some pretty little bags and ribbon to put them in.

Baked them at about 265 for 7 minutes or so. Some of them refused to melt, so I just picked them out. I let them cool a few minutes and then put the pans in the freezer for 10 minutes.
